Although
we windsurfed in Saint Thomas, the following information
would be useful to kiteboarders as well.
Saint
Thomas was our introduction to windsurfing. It was also
our honeymoon.
We
stayed at the Limetree, an all-inclusive including all
the alcohol you could drink. Their restaurant was 5
star and all you could eat. You could order three appetizers,
two main courses and three desserts if you wanted.
The
Limetree was beautiful. It was located on a private
bay. Offshore was a 50 foot yacht at our disposal. We
used it to go on snorkeling and island hopping trips.
This was an incredible plus.
They
also had a fully equipped water sports center. We snorkeled,
kayaked , played volleyball and one day, we tried our
hand at windsurfing. It was very comical. We had a quick
lesson on the beach to learn how to get on the board
and uphaul the sail. We headed into the water, got on
the board and stood there because there was no wind.
Suddenly, a five mph gust would knock us over. We were
terrible, but we fell in love with the sport.
After
we returned to Long Beach, we bought a rig for $75 and
started our foray into what we hope will be a life long
pleasure.
